Does Nationwide FlexPlus travel insurance have an upper age limit?

Last checked against Nationwide's policy documents on 27 October 2026

The short answer

No. Neither the FlexPlus travel policy (Aviva, policy FP010524) nor Nationwide's travel insurance page sets an upper age limit for the account holder or their partner. That is unusual: many packaged accounts stop or charge extra from 70, 75 or 80.

Age is not the catch. Medical conditions are. Any diagnosed condition you had medication, treatment, tests, a specialist visit or a hospital stay for in the 12 months before you opened the account or booked the trip (whichever is later) must be declared to Aviva, and may need a paid upgrade.

FlexPlus costs £18 a month. Trips are covered for up to 31 days, or up to 120 days with a paid upgrade bought after you have booked the return trip.

Where people get caught out

  • No age limit doesn't mean no medical questions. Older travellers are more likely to have a condition that needs declaring, and an undeclared condition can mean a claim is turned down.
  • The 12-month window runs from opening the account or booking the trip, whichever is later, so a new diagnosis or new medication matters for every trip you book afterwards.
  • Extra premiums. Medical cover for declared conditions can come with an extra premium. Get the quote before you rely on the account for a trip.
  • The 120-day upgrade is for long trips only. It can't be used for winter sports.
  • Expensive holidays. Cancellation is capped at £5,000 per person unless you pay to upgrade. Check this against what you have booked.

Could you be paying twice?

If you have FlexPlus, check whether you also pay for any of these.

  • A separate over-70s or over-80s annual travel policy, if FlexPlus already covers you and Aviva accepts your declared conditions.
  • Travel cover bundled with a credit card or another packaged account, for the same people.

Compare the medical upgrade price with a standalone specialist policy before deciding which to keep.
