NatWest Reward Platinum: what insurance is included?
Last checked against NatWest's policy documents on 27 October 2026
NatWest Reward Platinum costs £23 a month. It includes worldwide family travel insurance (Allianz), family mobile phone insurance (Aviva) and UK car breakdown cover from the AA, plus health and travel extras. You can also earn £4 a month in Rewards by having two Direct Debits of £2 or more.
Travel cover is for trips of up to 31 days, in the UK and abroad, including winter sports, with emergency medical expenses up to £10 million. It covers you, your partner and dependent children under 18 (under 23 in full-time education). If you or a joint account holder are 70 or over, you must buy an age extension each year, costing £100 per person.
Breakdown cover is UK only: there is no European breakdown cover on Platinum. Phone insurance covers up to two phones with a £50 excess for repairs and £100 for replacements.
What Reward Platinum covers
| Cover | Who is covered | Key limits |
|---|---|---|
| Travel (underwritten by AWP P&C S.A., administered by Allianz Assistance) | You, your partner and dependent children under 18 (under 23 in full-time education) living at home. Anyone aged 70 or over needs a paid age extension (£100 per person per year). The policy sets no upper age limit beyond that. | UK and worldwide, trips up to 31 days (longer with the paid Extended Trip Cover upgrade). Emergency medical expenses up to £10 million. Cancellation up to £5,000 per person. Baggage up to £1,500 (valuables £500 in total, £300 for any one item), with a £75 excess per person per claim. |
| Winter sports (Allianz Assistance) | As for travel. | Included, up to 31 days per trip. Own or hired equipment up to £400 (£75 excess, nothing paid for kit over five years old). Replacement hire up to £200. Ski pack up to £150 a week if injury or illness stops you skiing. Piste closure: £10 a day towards getting to another resort, or £30 a day if there is nowhere else to ski. Off-piste only with a locally licensed guide. |
| Mobile phone (Aviva Insurance Limited) | You, your partner and children under 18 living at home (under 23 if in full-time education). | Up to 2 phones. Loss, theft, accidental damage and breakdown after the manufacturer's warranty ends. Phone must have cost under £2,500 including VAT. Accessories up to £250. Excess £50 for a repair, £100 for a replacement. Two approved claims per 12 months (four for joint accounts). |
| Breakdown (AA) | The account holder in any UK-registered vehicle they are driving or travelling in. Also the account holder's own vehicle when an authorised driver uses it with their permission. The cover follows the person, not the car. | UK only. Roadside, At Home, National Recovery and Onward Travel. No repeat callouts for the same fault within 28 days. Private use only. |
Where people get caught out
- Pre-existing medical conditions aren't covered automatically. You need to declare them through Allianz medical screening (0345 609 0453), and you may have to pay extra or they may not be covered at all.
- Turning 70. If you or your joint account holder are 70 or over, you must contact NatWest every year to buy the age extension (£100 per person). Without it, you may not be covered.
- Trips longer than 31 days are not covered unless you buy the Extended Trip Cover upgrade.
- Off-piste and specialist winter sports. Off-piste skiing is only covered with a locally licensed guide. Heli-skiing and off-piste glacier skiing are only covered if you buy the additional sports upgrade.
- Older ski kit. Equipment payouts drop with age (90% of the price for kit up to a year old, 20% at five years), and nothing is paid for kit over five years old.
- Driving in Europe. Breakdown cover is UK only, so you need separate European breakdown cover. NatWest only includes European cover on its Black account.
- Phone IMEI. To claim on phone insurance, you must register your phone with its IMEI number. You don't have to register in advance, but a claim can't go through without it.
- Phones abroad and work phones. Phone repairs aren't done abroad: they are dealt with once you are back in the UK. Phones owned by your employer aren't covered.
- Garage bills and keys. The AA won't pay repair costs once your car has been taken to a garage, and doesn't cover replacement keys.
Could you be paying twice?
If you have Reward Platinum, check whether you also pay for any of these.
- A separate annual travel policy, or travel cover that comes with a credit card or another bank account.
- Standalone phone insurance or a network insurance plan, for phones already covered by the account (up to two phones).
- AA, RAC or other UK breakdown membership, or breakdown cover added to your car insurance. You may still need European cover if you drive abroad.
Compare limits and excesses before cancelling anything: a separate policy may give you more cover than Reward Platinum does.

Common questions
- How much does NatWest Reward Platinum cost?
- £23 a month. You can earn £4 a month back in Rewards if you have two Direct Debits of £2 or more on the account. You must be 18 or over, live in the UK and already have a NatWest current account to upgrade.
- Does NatWest Reward Platinum travel insurance cover winter sports?
- Yes. Winter sports are included for trips of up to 31 days, with own or hired equipment covered up to £400 and piste closure paid at £10 or £30 a day. Off-piste skiing is only covered with a locally licensed guide.
- Is there an age limit on NatWest Platinum travel insurance?
- The policy only covers you while you are under 70, unless you buy the age extension upgrade, which NatWest prices at £100 per person per year. The policy doesn't set an upper age limit beyond that. Anyone aged 70 or over also has to answer medical questions.
- Is NatWest Platinum breakdown cover for my car or for me?
- For you. It covers the account holder in any UK-registered vehicle they are driving or travelling in, and the account holder's own vehicle when someone they have authorised is driving it.
- Can I extend NatWest Platinum travel insurance for a longer trip?
- Yes. Trips are covered for up to 31 days, and you can pay for the Extended Trip Cover upgrade for a longer trip. Without it, a trip longer than 31 days is not covered.
- Does NatWest Platinum include European breakdown cover?
- No. Platinum includes UK breakdown cover from the AA only. European breakdown cover is included with the NatWest Black account, not Platinum.
- How many phones are covered on NatWest Reward Platinum?

- Are pre-existing medical conditions covered?
- Not automatically. You must contact Allianz for medical screening. You may have to pay an extra premium, and some conditions may not be covered.
