Where people get caught out
- Pre-existing medical conditions aren't covered. The travel policy excludes claims arising from them.
- The age limit is 70. Once you reach 71, cover only continues until the next anniversary of your Max plan.
- Trips of 45 days or more aren't covered.
- Family members must be named on the policy, and you need the £4 family add-on for anyone other than you.
- Skiing in the UK. Winter sports cover only applies outside the UK, and ski equipment over 5 years old or left unattended isn't covered.
- Scratches and dents on your phone aren't covered, and a same-day replacement phone costs a £50 fee on top of the £75 excess.
- New accounts. You need to have held Max for 24 hours before claiming for onward travel or breakdown in Europe.
Could you be paying twice?
If you have Monzo Max, check whether you also pay for any of these.
- A separate annual travel policy, or travel cover on a credit card or another bank account.
- Phone insurance from your network or a retailer, for a phone Max already covers.
- Separate breakdown cover, or a breakdown add-on on your car insurance.
- Car hire excess insurance, when Max includes car hire excess cover up to £3,000.
Compare limits and excesses before cancelling anything: a separate policy may give you more cover than Max does.
