What does the Barclays Travel Pack actually cover?

Last checked against Barclays's policy documents on 27 October 2026

The short answer

The Barclays Travel Pack (£14.50 a month, six-month minimum term) adds two covers to an eligible Barclays current account: worldwide travel insurance from Aviva and UK and European breakdown cover from the RAC.

Travel cover is for trips of up to 31 days, including winter sports and cruises, for you, a partner who lives with you, and children under 23 who travel with you. It doesn't include phone insurance: phones and laptops only count as valuables while you're away, capped at £400 each.

Where people get caught out

  • Pre-existing medical conditions aren't covered unless you declare them and Aviva accepts them. A condition counts if you had medication, treatment, a referral or a hospital stay for it in the last 12 months, and covering it may need a paid upgrade that renews every year.
  • New diagnoses must be declared before you book your next trip, not when you claim.
  • Trips longer than 31 days aren't covered at all unless you buy the longer trip upgrade (up to 120 days) before you travel. Winter sports trips can't be extended.
  • Phones, laptops, tablets and cameras are only covered up to £400 each, and only if they are in your hand luggage while you travel.
  • Holidays in the UK only count if you have at least 2 nights of pre-booked accommodation.
  • Partners and grown-up children. A partner is only covered if they live with you as a couple. Children aged 23 or over need their own policy.
  • Cancelling the pack. Cover ends on the day Barclays receives your cancellation, and there is a six-month minimum term.

Could you be paying twice?

If you have the Travel Pack, check whether you also pay for any of these.

  • A separate annual travel policy, or travel cover that comes with a credit card or another bank account.
  • Separate breakdown cover, or a breakdown add-on on your car insurance. The RAC cover in the pack follows you, not the car.
  • Ski or cruise add-ons sold with a holiday, when the pack already includes winter sports and cruises.

Compare limits and excesses before cancelling anything: the pack caps belongings at £1,500, which may be less than a separate policy gives you.
